Talend, the first Open Source data integration solution provider!
The increase in the volume of information as well as the number of applications used within enterprises lead to new technological interconnection challenges.
With more than 250 000 downloads, Talend is the first data integration, migration, replication, synchronization solution provider. With more than 250 connectors, the Talend solutions enables interconnection for your multiple free and/or proprietary applications (CRM, ERP, etc.) within your information system.
How it works
Talend's flagship product, Talend Open Studio generates code in Perl or Java allowing transformation scripts for data from different sources (files, applications, mails, etc) and underlying programs to be generated in order to interconnect your numerous applications within your information system. In a nutshell, in chronological order, Talend's data integration solutions consist in:
- extracting data from a system ;
- transforming data in order for them to be compliant with the system to which you wish to send the data (if needed) ;
- sending data to the targeted system.
The chosen economic model
In an interview for the Business Intelligence Network, Yves de Montcheuil, VP Marketing for Talend explains the choice of the economic model chosen by Talend. The strength of Talend is in part due to the economic model chosen by Talend, the Free software model. Since the source code is open to all, all the users can download it and test the software versions for free, in order to make them stronger and more complete. For example, approximately 40% of the connectors referred to previously are contributions made by the community and this trend is likely to increase. Finally, the user does not have to pay additional fees in order to put his hands on a new version of the software whenever an application is added to his information system.
Yves de Montcheuil, VP Marketing chez Talend, concludes this interview with a sarcastic approach of the disadvantages of Talend's economic model: « The only disadvantage of this economic model is for proprietary software vendors! ».
